Been a while

Well whilst finishing my degree i haven't managed to do much photography except the odd couple of jobs and a few outings at the last minute.

FOrks

This week enabled me to photograph something that i haven't before - lightning!  We don't get much of it over here in the UK and what we do get is normally sheet lighting not the more photograph friendly fork stuff.  Sitting at home watching the lightning storm going on i suddenly though "why am i not out capturing this"?

Re-run

This week i decided to try to re-do a photo that i took a long time ago.  I knew that the previous photo was taken at midday but i wanted to try to get a similar one at sunset.  The area that i originally took it form had unfortunately fallen into the sea some time ago by the looks of it so i had to re-evaluate what i was going to do.  In the end i decided to move along the cliff a bit until i came to an area that would suffice.  The resulting photo is posted below:

The motivation is back!

I've been a bit slack recently in getting out and taking photos but after a period of good sunny weather i decided to just get out there and see what i could find.  Two photos taken on consecutive nights, the first at Dollar Cove and the second at Rinsey point.

Asleep at last

I was asked to take some photos of a 3 week old little girl the other week and didn't anticipate too many issues, after all, babies at this age don't do very much!  However, she refused to go to sleep and i had to return the next day where she still wasn't playing ball.  Eventually she decided to have a snooze and i captured some good photos.

Emma Maternity

A few weeks ago i had the honour of photographing Emma, 37 weeks pregnant.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself as this was only the second time that i have done a shoot like this.

HeaDshOt!

Just before Christmas i had the pleasure of being asked to do some head shots of the very talented Chloe, a local singer songwriter.  Naturally nervous i was expecting a hard time but she warmed to the camera very quickly and the session was over in 30 minutes even though i had allowed 2 hours.

And so it continues!

Since my last post on the 9th January the weather has been relentless, storm after storm , pouring more misery on an already pissed off community. Over the past week we have seen some of the most powerful storms for over a century causing the protective baulks at the entrance to be smashed to pieces - weighing in excess of 2 tonnes each it gives you an idea of the amount of force generated by the incoming waves. After the sinking of 10 boats it was decided to remove the remaining ones. This has not happened in the past 125 years and is a real once in a lifetime event for the village. Having grown up in the village i am both amazed and saddened by this photo.

Storms 2014

Over the past week a huge storm has battered the South West of the UK.  The small fishing village of Porthleven, the place where i grew up, saw waves of up to 28ft test the harbour defences.  I'm pleased to say that once again, they stood firm.  I went out sunrise and sunset for 3 days to capture the images below and thoroughly enjoyed playing the game of "keep the lens dry", an absolute nightmare considering the strength of the wind and the sea spray.
